Ya know, I was tempted to not put a translation for the Japanese text there. After much thought I decided to put it in because I'm not sure whether or not enough people would guess correctly what it meant. One thing I don't really want to do too much with my comics is to use the whole thing for denoting not english speech. I think sometimes it makes the experience richer when the reader doesn't seemingly have a universal translator that phases through the page. Also it's because (at least in the case of Japanese) I'm actually learning the language and it helps me show off. However, with big blocks of text that would be very complicated for me to do and/or if the text must be understood by the reader, I'll use the <> notation.
Also, in a Japanese letter, -sama is how you address who it's intended too. And it doesn't show up at all because of my resizing and stuff, but I actually wrote Justin Quitoriano-sama in Japanese on the envelope there. It shows up barely if you zoom in on my 2500x3185 pixel version of it, but it doesn't show up at all in this version...
